Embracing Challenges, Learning Resilience, and Pursuing Growth
Introduction
Throughout my college years, I focused on my studies and worked hard to maintain an average academic performance. However, upon completing my graduation, I found myself lost and uncertain about my future career and job prospects. To make ends meet, I used to teach kids and go for manual labour to earn wages, from that time to this time still life has not stopped teaching, I have tried to get you what I have experienced from my own life, I hope you will. Find it interesting and will relate it to your experience.
Chapter 1: Beginnings and Uncertainty
I was totally unaware of corporate life until I completed my graduation. I was an average student and did a BA in Economics Honours from Indira Gandhi Government College in 2021. After graduation, my mind was in turmoil thinking about my career and jobs. I started teaching small kids, but that wasn't enough. On Saturdays and Sundays during my college years, I did manual labor to earn wages. I was a hardworking person who always believed that something good would happen in my life, and I am still on the path to learn and grow.
Chapter 2: Entering the Corporate World
I joined PhonePe after moving to Bangalore and worked as an insurance sales advisor. Dealing with corporate pressure was a whole new experience; I wore headsets and talked with customers, which felt completely alien to an innocent guy like me. Sometimes, I felt like escaping from the corporate field, but I had no other option. I continued working for a year, adjusting with my bachelor colleagues, who smoked and drank, making me uncomfortable. I settled in a rented house by paying a deposit of 20,000 rupees from my own pocket. Two of my office friends initially joined me but later left without paying rent, and for almost two months, I managed all the expenses.
Chapter 3: Finding New Beginnings
Later, I shifted again, and this time, I found wonderful roommates in Bishnu Sharma, Rohan Cherry, and Puniya Vai. After a few days, Rohan and Puniya left, and M. R. Remon moved in. My days were better from then on. I spent a year at PhonePe, but the process was shut down, and all employees had to move to a different process that required night shifts, which I couldn't manage due to my health. Upon learning about the process shutdown, I applied for resignation and served a one-month notice period. After that, I joined OTO Finance, where I engaged in calling and convincing customers to sell bikes on EMIs. The workload was overwhelming, and the manager, along with the team, became increasingly irritating. He conducted meetings twice a day, and eventually, everyone left the job.
Chapter 4: Standing Up for Myself
One day, during my probation period just 15 days after joining, the manager spoke rudely to me. In frustration, I argued with him, stating that if he did not understand my abilities or if I did not fit into his company, I would leave. I threw my locker key towards security, left my office laptop on the desk, removed my ID card, and left, with everyone witnessing my exit. Some close friends tried to stop me. I told the manager, "Give my 15 days' salary to my colleagues." I took a bus and called another company's HR for an interview, but I was rejected. I returned to my room, rested, and spent two days searching for jobs. Eventually, I called my friend Sachin, who worked at Nobroker, and he referred me there.
Chapter 5: New Opportunities and Challenges
I attended the interview and was selected as a relationship manager. The training began, and I completed on-the-job training (OJT). I was involved in sales, where meeting monthly targets of selling 4 to 5 properties was challenging. Finding buyers and negotiating prices was a difficult task, but it helped me develop strong negotiation and management skills. However, when my landlord asked me to vacate, I had no choice but to shift to Electronic City, 5 kilometers away from my office. My family also lived in Electronic City, so I relocated there. Despite this, I struggled to reach the office on time and often arrived at midnight, forcing me to leave home two hours earlier. Unable to sustain this commute, I resigned.
Chapter 6: Pursuing Further Education
I decided to pursue an MBA, prioritizing time over money. I went to Rajiv Gandhi University in Itanagar to collect my degree certificate to join MBA, I enjoyed a vacation after two years of continuous corporate pressure. I explored Nepal, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh, meeting many people, including relatives in Tezpur, Jagun, Siliguri, and Nepal.
Chapter 7: Job Search and Ethical Dilemmas
Despite these experiences, I continued job searching and was offered a night shift position with a 35,000 rupee take-home package, which I declined. Eventually, I joined V-Plus Research as a stock market advisor but quit after just three days due to unethical practices where they took clients' money and caused them losses. Subsequently, I joined Afordplan as a financial counselor. Here, I focused on selling cards to walking patients, with no calling involved, and the working location is convenient. As compare to other this job is little good for me to build strong communication and objection handling skills with face to face interaction.
Chapter 8: Balancing Work and Education
I enrolled in my MBA from Manipal University Jaipur, after joining this company. Despite being dissatisfied with my level 1 job, I aimed to learn about management processes and gain business knowledge for future positions or setting up my own business. This motivation drives me to study late into the night even after whole day work, I. Am really enjoying the constant provided in the syllabus.
Conclusion
A Continuous Journey of Growth Through all these experiences, I've learned to embrace challenges, cultivate resilience, and continually pursue personal and professional growth. My journey is far from over, and I remain committed to learning and evolving, knowing that every step I take brings me closer to my goals.
